WDW 2012 – Day 5 – Epcot and Mickey’s BBQ!
Our 5th day at Disney World was a busy day! We had lunch reservations at Le Cellier Steakhouse at Epcot. This is one of our favorite non-character meals!
We hopped on the Monorail and made our way to Epcot! We had a few hours before our yummy lunch. Epcot typically opens at 9 a.m., but the World Showcase area doesn’t open until 11 a.m.
After arriving at the park, we went to the Land Pavilion and rode Soarin’. It is such a fun ride and such a neat experience. The ride makes it seem like you are flying over the state of California. I love the different smells that are piped in while you are on the ride. It is so relaxing and so fun!!
While the girls rode Soarin’, the guys made their way over to Mission: Space. I have never rode this ride and probably never will, but Michael and Zachary like it. After we were finished with those rides, we met up at the Imagination Pavilion so we could ride Journey Into Imagination with Figment. It’s a really easy, laid back ride, but a favorite! Who doesn’t love that cute, purple dragon?!
This is us right before we went in for our visit with Figment. This fountain is really cool because the water shoots up the side of the fountain, instead of falling down.
It was getting closer to 11 and the opening of the World Showcase, so we started walking that direction. We stopped along the way and took a few photos with the different countries of the World Showcase.
Since we had lunch reservations at Le Cellier Steakhouse, we walked around the Canadian Pavilion. It is really pretty with the pond and flower garden. Here are a few photos from around Canada!
Our lunch reservations were at 11:30 a.m. This is the earliest time you can get lunch reservations at Le Cellier. If you are ever able to get reservations at this time, you are greeted with the staff opening the restaurant by singing, “Oh, Canada.”
At lunch, some of us had steak…which I was told was really good. I decided to chose from their pick 3 menu. I had the cheddar cheese soup…which is sooo good! Really good with the pretzel bread that they bring you. I also had Sauteed Potato Gnocchi…which if you are not a big meat eater, they are really good! I finished my meal with the famous chocolate mousse/moose. It is so cute, but so yummy!
After lunch we had enough time to walk through The Living Seas with Nemo and Friends.
We hopped in our clam shell and rode through the ride to the aquariums. We saw dolphins, sharks and huge sea turtles!
The kids always like stopping by to climb in Bruce the Shark and have their picture taken with him.
Knowing that we would be back at Epcot to really enjoy all that the World Showcase has to offer, we left Epcot to go back to the resort and get ready for our big evening of dancing fun at Mickey’s Backyard BBQ!
Of course, since the weather was a little wet, by the time we needed to leave to go the marina at The Contemporary to catch the boat over to the Fort Wilderness Campgrounds for the Backyard BBQ, it was raining pretty hard. We stood in a covered area at The Contemporary and waited for the boat to come back. During that time, there was an awesome rainbow that formed. It looked like it ended right at the edge of Bay Lake. I had never seen one so full and so close looking. Next thing we knew, there was a double rainbow! Disney MAGIC at it’s best!!!
Our boat arrived and we made our way across Bay Lake. We passed Discovery Island…I wonder what it was like back when you could actually go on it and I wonder if Disney will ever reopen it?
We made it to Fort Wilderness Campgrounds and walked back to Mickey’s Backyard BBQ! We were taken to our picnic table and then went and grabbed some food! The BBQ is a picnic style buffet. There is chicken, ribs, hot dogs, hamburgers, salad, cornbread, corn on the cob, watermelon…most things you can find at a BBQ. There is also unlimited Mickey ice cream bars…yum!
The band came out and we were all greeted by Tumbleweed Will and Cyclone Sally! It wasn’t long after that, when Mickey and the gang came out to start dancing!
Each character has a designated area around the pavilion that they dance at. Taylor headed straight to Goofy and she was right with him as he made his way to his dance spot and held her hand the entire way! Goofy and Taylor danced together for a few minutes before other kids finally started joining in! There are times like this when I wish I was a kid at Disney to get to experience how fun and MAGICAL things like this must be.
There are many more activities that happen at the BBQ. There is a guy who does rope tricks and he is really good! They also have line dancing and conga lines with the characters. It is so much fun!! If you are using the Disney Dining Plan, it is a 2 table service credit meal, but it is so much fun. This was our second time to join in on the Backyard BBQ fun! It wasn’t long before Mickey and his pals were waving good night to everyone and it was time to go back to the boat.
As we got closer to The Contemporary and Bay Lake, it looked so pretty. The lights were starting to bounc off the water and it looked very peaceful and MAGICAL!!! What a great day!!!
